Volunteer & Apprentice

Volunteering with BADSEED

Volunteering at BADSEED provides individuals the opportunity to learn healthy growing practices first-hand.  We consistently have more work than we can handle, and volunteers are always welcome to help out.  Wednesdays are our main volunteer day, when volunteers are welcome anytime from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  We can also accommodate volunteers most other days with prior notice.  Interested volunteers can arrange times by emailing Dan at dan@badseedfarm.com, or by calling 816-472-0027.

Apprenticing with BADSEED

BADSEED accepts one apprentice each season to work with us on the farm for 25 hours per week in exchange for free accommodation at BADSEED’s downtown storefront (fully equipped with commercial kitchen and comfortable amenities), free vegetables and free transportation.  Apprentices develop skills in no-till, beyond-organic market gardening, fruit pruning and maintenance, food preservation, irrigation systems and more.  Apprentices also assist in implementing new aspects of the farm as we move toward more complete farm systems.

Apprentices are also invited to participate in the Growing Growers program through K-State Extension.  Growing Growers offers a curriculum of workshops and a host of print resources to farm apprentices on topics ranging from soil management to post-harvest practices.
